Standardised kit is something we have talked about more and more recently, after some recent pics I thought I would post this pic up of me when I was sparring with sword and buckler which very nicely shows our standardised kit list. Standardising is something we have always considered very important and have got closer and closer as time has gone by, finally we are happy.

The above kit is used for all heavy steel weapon training, ie,

longsword, sword and buckler, messer etc, heres the list -

Leon Paul Coaching mask and leather top

PBT coaching jacket, (black stretch)

Escrima full contact arm guards

Brushcutter leg guards

Brine Supercross Lacrosse gloves
(Now discontinued, searching for replacement)

Alteration for rapier kit

As above, minus lacrosse gloves and escrima arm guards, add leather gloves, my choice are revival light sparring gloves.

Notes

Some people may want additional torso protection, though I choose not to, fencing chest protector or PBT coaching plastron (not tested this yet) both see good.

Lastly, we do look remarkably like Hammaborg more and more all the time, though I have no issue with this, they have done some great work establishing good looking and effective kit, despite this similarity, almost everything we wear is actually subtley different Very Happy

Also of note, I now have blue versions of those Brine gloves which I think look better, also getting a bulk order of trousers in soon, full contact martial arts with elasticated waist, black with two white strikes down the sides

As a possible alternative to the lacrosse gloves. You might look at the ex-police public order gloves, they are leather outer with backhand, knuckle and outer finger padding and are Kevlar lined. I appreciate that you are not using sharpened weapons, but the edges can still get rough and notched in use, so the Kevlar would give added protection when half-swording, and using hand on blade disarming techniques (Ringeck, Longsword etc...).

These gloves are cheap and plentiful from places like Marcruss army surplus in Hotwells.

Hope that helps,

Regards, Lucien Crofts
