The Academy of Historical Fencing is based in the South West of the United Kindgom and currently includes a club in South Wales (AHF Caerleon), and two clubs in Bradley stoke (Bristol)   The club is run by a group of like minded martial artists looking to develop their skills and knowledge in a safe and relaxed environment whilst also sharing knowledge with like minded people.  The club has over 60 members and 2 instructors with a variety of skills, knowledge and expertise in different weapon forms, combat and research.

A ranking system is being instroduced to the club over the coming months, as currently the only rankings are Instructor, for Michael and Nick Thomas, and member for anyone who has attended the club for one month.  The ranking system will see two rankings for members as well as an Instructors rank and assistant Instructors rank, which we hope some of our members will reach in the future shoudl they wish to follow that path.

Our current syllabus teaches armed and unarmed combat in the English, German and Italian traditions.  We use longswords, sword & buckler, side sword, rapier, dagger, messer, sword & shield, quarterstaff and broadsword combat.  We expect all our students to train with a variety of weapons and to both and train and spar in equal measure.  We train primarily with steel weapons and armour is always worn for sparring.

AHF instructors are all significant writers or reseachers and have produced a variety of papers and books on the study of swordshmanship, military history and martial arts.
